“Is Stress Standing Between You and Success?”
April 2013
Excerpt from Article: No one wants to feel like they are responsible for their own stress, and that’s not exactly what I’m suggesting. The way each of us responds in any situation is completely normal for us based on our beliefs, our life experiences and our attitudes. All of these add up to a cause-effect response that is natural and will happen repeatedly, unless we do something to break or change the cycle.
So what do we do about it? In some situations, we do nothing. A little stress can be helpful, as it can motivate us into action. But if we aren’t paying attention, stress can cause some real and significant problems in our life.

“Advice for Going Gluten-Free with Kids”
February 2013
Excerpt from Article: Elaine Taylor-Klaus took her daughter Bex off gluten 81 / 2 years ago after a nutritionist suggested the irritable and sensitive girl might have a gluten sensitivity. Within two weeks of eliminating gluten from her diet, Bex, now 18, was a different child.
“Parents are afraid to even try it because it sounds like it would be too hard,” said Taylor-Klaus, a parenting coach in Atlanta. “I was one of those parents. I’m not saying it’s not hard. But [Bex] became so much easier to manage that the trade-off was far superior to what I thought it would be.”

“Two Lessons Learned”
July 2012
Excerpt from Video: There are two major lessons that I’ve learned from the 10 years we searched before discovering my daughter’s gluten intolerance.
• First, that bull-dogged determination is called for in life, sometimes.
• Second, that our life challenges can be used for good in the service of others.
This video addresses both of those lessons, and tells a poignant story of our discovery of gluten and its impact on our family.

“How to Help Your Working Memory Especially for Children with ADHD”
2012
Excerpt from Article: What can you do when ADHD causes you to forget something? What can you do before the next time it happens?
CHADD’s website describes working memory as a mental place to hold information long enough to use it to solve a problem or complete a task. People with ADHD often have difficulty keeping things in their minds long enough to do it. So we asked some experts for help with some common working memory problems that children experience— and a talented college student volunteered to illustrate their suggestions.

“6 tips to coach your kids with ADD/ADHD”
October 2012
Excerpt from Article: There are six key strategic areas for parents to focus on when managing ADD/ADHD and literally hundreds of coaching skills to help parents help their kids. Here’s a specific tip for each strategy that will get you off that treadmill and help you rediscover the joy of parenting:
1. Educate yourself and your child about ADHD: This is a critical first step. Learn whatever you can and help your child identify the ways ADHD causes challenges at home and at school. Use this to empower your child to understand that he/she is not stupid and there is a reason for his/her challenges. If you’re not sure if something is caused by the ADD/ADHD or not, it probably has something to do with it!

“Stressed Out?”
August 2012
Excerpt from Article: Three out of four people in the United States report that they regularly experience the physical and psychological effects of stress. As a parent of a special needs child, I can completely relate to this statistic. As a parent coach and a healthcare professional, I’m genuinely concerned.
Can you relate?
Before I became a coach (and a mom) I had a successful career in Corporate America. It was a busy and stress-filled job, which got worse after I started having kids. I was definitely one of those “do it all” kind of women.

“Failing Forward: Why Teach Failure?”
May 2012
Excerpt from Article: What if teaching your kids (or your employees, or your colleagues) to fail (gracefully) is the most valuable lesson you can offer?
Sure, it’s empowering to strive for excellence. But let’s be serious. We spend a lot more time being human than we do being perfect.
What if we actually embrace our moments of human frailty as an opportunity for growth, instead of fighting them tooth and nail? What would be available to us if we saw as much opportunity in failure as we do in success?
