Quick Tip

Have fun!

I don’t know about you, but recently I feel like I’ve lost my connection to having fun. When we were kids, (for the most part) life was all about having fun – I have great memories of neighborhood ball games and bike rides and adventures. Seems there is so much more to be serious about as a parent, especially when our kids have ADHD. It’s easy to get overwhelmed, and forget to lighten up a little. Here’s some ideas on how to bring a more fun-loving mentality into your grown-up world:

  •  Take advantage of the fact that your kids are more focused on fun, and play with them a little – turn off the tv and electronics, and enjoy one another. When was the last time you laughed so hard that tears came to your eyes? When was the last time you jumped for joy, or just jumped rope?!
  • Figure out what fun means for you, and do it. If we focus some attention on what brings us joy in life it can motivate and sustain us in those moments when we are doing things that are more challenging.  As parents it’s often easy to fall into doing what your kids like to do. It’s not always our first pick for what we find fun, so make sure to prioritize your play both with and without them. Take a class, change your routine, re-connect with something you love that you have lost your connection with. Have Fun!
